The plan is to place 27 new NP positions in various rural and remote areas across Saskatchewan, part of a $4.5 million commitment from this year’s provincial budget.
Along with turbines going up, 18 km of new road is also included in the construction process - 3.5 km of that becoming municipal roads. A staggering 106 km of medium voltage underground cables connecting the turbines will also be installed.
A huge attraction to the program is more than just landing a job, it’s setting the stage for a lucrative career with training close to home that could mean getting a job in Esterhazy or Rocanville.
Starting in 2026, each individual potash mine will have its own area of influence. So the taxes for that mine will only be distributed to the municipalities within its area of influence.
A large part of the upgrade was a 300 mm thick concrete slab that Boyle says will “increase the weight of the spillway, strengthening it against movement which in addition to the existing drainage system will protect the structure.”
