Man charged with dangerous driving in death of woman killed by freight truck

REGINA — A man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death in Regina after a 19-year-old woman was killed by a freight truck.

Regina police say 44-year-old Biniam Emaha faces the charge.

He made a brief court appearance Tuesday and was to be released on conditions he not drive, live at an approved residence and not be in contact with certain people. He’s also required to surrender his international travel documents to court or police.

It’s alleged Emaha failed to stop at a red light in October and his truck crashed into another vehicle.

Police say the truck left the crash site and went on to strike the woman while she was inside a bus shelter.

The vehicle proceeded to crash into several fences and a street light before coming to a stop.

The woman, who was declared dead on scene, has not been identified by police.

Emaha is scheduled to make another court appearance on Feb. 12.
